Brookshire Brothers opened a new store Wednesday with a holiday twist.  Wells Elementary School’s choir sang Christmas favorites as shoppers arrived for the ribbon cutting that also featured student leaders, cheerleaders, and athletes.  Customers flocked to the event to spin the prize wheel, sign up for giveaways and check out the produce, fresh meats, and full service deli in the store that sits on the Cherokee and Angelina County line.

Store Director Geri Carrell greeted customers when the store opened at six in the morning and told them about more conveniences she has ‘in store’ including hunting and fishing licenses, deer corn, money orders, Western Union money transfer, an ATM and check cashing.  Carrell, is a ten year Brookshire Brothers veteran. She’s joined by her assistant Amanda Ramsey.  Both encourage the folks in this rural area to make the new Express store ‘theirs’.  Carrell and Ramsey let customers know they were here to serve and cater to the community’s needs.

Brookshire Brothers is no stranger to Wells. It’s owned a former Polk Pick It Up in town for years. As a nod to their community partnership, company executives, including President Jerry Johnson, COO John Alston and CFO Clay Oliver presented Chief Robert Kalka with Wells Volunteer Fire Department and Shannon Flowers and Phyllis Corbin with the Rube Sessions Library checks to go toward their mission.

The City of Wells, led by Mayor CW Williams helped with the 10 o’clock ribbon cutting along with WISD Superintendent Jim Moore and Wells High School Principal Gary Applewhite. The District presented the store with sports jerseys with the numbers 12-14-2016 on them to represent the date of the store’s grand opening.  The jerseys will hang in the Café adjacent to the Deli.  Brookshire Brothers representatives signed customers up for CELEBRATE – the company’s loyalty program. It includes Digital Coupons, Member Monday specials and other exclusive offers – just for members.

Brookshire Brothers just celebrated its 95th birthday with more expansion plans on the horizon. Two additional Express stores will open by early 2017.  The company believes in super serving its customers and its communities with quality goods, great values and the extra bonus of shopping with someone you know.  The Wells store employs about 30 local people.

Brookshire Brothers is employee-owned and community driven. Its assets include 116 retail outlets incorporating grocery stores, convenience stores, as well as free standing tobacco, pharmacy and petro locations.
