The Story Behind the Best Fried Chicken in Town 

When Austin and Tom Brookshire started our company back in 1921, groceries were front and center. Their goal was to provide the best products in Texas at a good value for their customers.

As the company and the Brookshire family grew, they discovered their own recipe for success—it was found right in Granny Brookshire’s kitchen! Her fried chicken was legendary (everyone knew Sunday lunch was an event not to be missed if Granny was frying).

It took the brothers a while to convince Granny to give up her recipe for their delis and convenience stores popping up all over Texas and Louisiana, but a Granny’s love knows no bounds. She finally agreed to share her secret recipe, with all the confidence in the world that her grandsons would succeed.

Now, over 100 years later, we're proud to say that our famous fried chicken is still made with FRESH, never frozen, marinated chickens, Granny’s secret blend of spices, and lots of tender love and care. Granny’s chicken recipe continues to be a family favorite with true Texas flavor that always has people coming back for more!
