Lufkin-Based Grocer and Brewpub to Partner

Brookshire Brothers is the first retailer to carry select varieties

LUFKIN, TEXAS (October 9, 2024)… Brookshire Brothers and Rusty Axe Brewing Co. announced Wednesday that the regional grocer is the first retailer to carry select varieties of the brewpub’s handcrafted beer.

Rusty Axe Brewing Co., located in downtown Lufkin, opened in 2023. A year and a half later, they are expanding their business for the first time into the retail sector, starting with Lufkin-based Brookshire Brothers.

Starting October 9, customers can purchase 12 oz. 6-packs of Angelina Ultra, Tomahawk Amber and Rusty Axe Oktoberfest at Brookshire Brothers’ Frank St. location. Those same three varieties will also be available at the company’s newest convenience store, located at 2106 S. First Street in Lufkin, which opens on Monday, October 14.

“Brookshire Brothers believes in sourcing local products for its customers whenever possible, and we are thrilled to partner with a Lufkin-based business to bring such a unique, high quality product to our shelves,” said Melissa Crager, Brookshire Brothers’ Public Relations & Corporate Responsibility Manager.

Brew master Trey Allen said the Angelina Ultra is Rusty Axe’s #1 bestseller. With a 4.7% alcohol content, the Belgium witbier is the lightest beer they brew.

“It’s basically our version of a Blue Moon,” Allen said.

The Tomahawk Amber is an American Amber ale with a 6.1% alcohol content. With its malty, caramel flavor profile, Allen said many folks compare it to Texas-brewed Shiner Bock. The Rusty Axe Oktoberfest is a seasonal creation with a 6.2% alcohol content. Once the Oktoberfest beer is completely sold out, Allen said they will switch to selling the Wobbler Cobbler at Brookshire Brothers. The blackberry milkshake IPA is one of Rusty Axe’s top sellers and will be sold in a 16 oz. four-pack.

When asked why they decided to partner with Brookshire Brothers on their new retail venture, Allen said, “the Brookshire Brothers headquarters is right here in Lufkin, and we are a local, small town brewpub. Local goes to local.”

The 6-packs and individual cans are located in the refrigerated cases on the beer aisle, as well as in a special display case on the same aisle.
