National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day:
PB&J Tacos, Apple Slice Cookies, and Octopus Pizza, Oh My!
PB&J Tacos
INGREDIENTS:
- Fresh Harvest Bread
- Food Club Peanut Butter
- Food Club Jelly
- Fresh fruit, sliced (try strawberries, bananas, or blueberries)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Lay out slices of bread and use a rolling pin to flatten each slice.
- Cut a large circle out of each slice of bread using a cookie cutter.
- Spread peanut butter and jelly over the entire surface of the circle.
- Fold in half like a taco shell.
- Top with fresh fruit and enjoy!
Apple Slice Cookies
INGREDIENTS:
- Apples, cored and sliced *crosswise*, to create shapes similar to a donut
- Food Club Peanut Butter (or almond butter, Nutella, etc.)
- Whatever toppings you'd like:
- Chocolate chips or mini M&Ms
- Granola
- Shredded coconut
- Dried fruit
- Choppd nuts
- Crushed Pretzels
- Etc.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Lay apple slices flat and spread peanut butter on top.
- Sprinkle with desired toppings like a cookie and enjoy!
Octopus Pizza
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 Pizza dough
- 1/2 Cup pizza sauce
- 1 Cup Food Club Shredded Mozzarella (for the head)
- Food Club Sliced Black Olives (for the tentacles and eyes)
- Could be substituted with mushrooms, green peppers, etc.)
- 4 Slices pepperoni (for the eyes)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Divide dough in half (each half makes 1 octopus).
- Divide dough in half again, creating four equal pieces total (2 pieces makes 1 octopus).
- Working on one "octopus" at a time, shape a piece of dough into an oval for the head. Place on the upper portion of a baking sheet (leave room for the tentacles!).
- Cut another piece of dough into 8 strips for the tentacles, and place them along the bottom half of the head, gently squishing down.
- Bake for 6 minutes.
- Spread pizza sauce all over. Sprinkle cheese evenly on the head and place sliced olives (or other veggies) on the tentacles. Add two slices of pepperoni on the head with two sliced olives as the eyes.
- Bake for another 6 minutes, then broil for 3 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Repeat steps 4-8 for the second octopus.
- Let cool slightly and enjoy!
