Improving the Lives of Thousands in Deep East Texas
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas serves thousands of children in its clubs in Angelina, Hardin, Houston, Nacogdoches, Polk and San Augustine counties. They are the largest youth-serving organization in their region, helping to improve academic standards for children, providing daily meals, supporting healthy lifestyles, and addressing character traits like responsibility, honesty and integrity.
With more than 4,300 children at their clubs in Crockett, Diboll, Livingston, Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Silsbee, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas concentrate on improving academic standards for children, especially those who suffered learning loss during the COVID-19 pandemic. They encourage social time with peers and recreation to help eliminate a child’s dependence on digital screens. The clubs provide a safe and fun environment to keep kids engaged and out of trouble, while also assisting them in career development, offering them access to the arts and field trips outside of their own hometowns, as well as providing opportunities for sports and social recreation.
The Boys & Girls Clubs offer programs in five key areas: Education and Career Development; Character and Leadership Development; Health and Life Skills; the Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Their overall goal is to achieve three major outcomes: Academic Success; Healthy Lifestyles; and Good Character and Citizenship.
It takes safe buildings and trained staff to support children attending the clubs. Funding provided by many community donors, including the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation, supports operating costs, equipment and supplies, utilities, maintenance, transportation and training.
