Crandall Goes Cajun For A Good Cause!
Lufkin… Brookshire Brothers puts out an ‘all call’ on behalf of the Crandall Volunteer Fire Department and the company hopes everyone will answer it. The Lufkin-based grocer has called on its friends at Tony Chachere’s to help raise funds for the Crandall Volunteer Fire Department. On Saturday, July 26th, from 5 to 9 PM, Brookshire Brothers and Tony Chachere’s will provide a feast of Cajun favorites! Brookshire Brothers has pledged to match what the community raises on the 26th up to $5000.00! This is more than a feed, it’s a party featuring music by Big Neon, raffle and door prizes. All proceeds go directly to Crandall’s Volunteer Fire Department in recognition of its 60 years of service to the people of Crandall and Kaufman County ESD #7.
Tony Chachere’s, based in Opelousas, Louisiana, has a world renown cooking team. The crew will set up its 40-foot cook trailer behind City Hall and prepare the feast of fried shrimp, fried catfish, jambalaya, smoked turkey, fries and a variety of Tony’s special sauces. Tony Chachere’s National Sales Director Brandon Schipes says, “Our cook team loves to do charitable events. There’s nothing better than coming to the aid of a community and that is what we are doing in Crandall.”
Brookshire Brothers’ Store Director Ernest Catuncan says the dire straits of the De-partment’s finances are what spurred him to get involved. A former member alleged-ly embezzled just under $300,000 from the Department forcing the VFD to sell equipment that was used as collateral on loans.
Catuncan and Brookshire Brothers’ Director of Public Relations Sally Alvis reached out to CVFD’s Chief Allen Cousins to organize the 60th Anniversary benefit. Alvis says, “At Brookshire Brothers we understand that our volunteer fire-fighters are the heart and soul of the community. We depend on our first responders! We celebrate their rich 60-year tradition and want to send them into the next sixty on sound financial footing. “
