BBCF Awards Grant to Lufkin ISD Education Foundation
The Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life of those living and working in areas served by Brookshire Brothers, Inc.
The BBCF’s primary motivation is to support programs and organizations that focus on education, health and wellbeing, community and social services, cultural arts and the humanities. Over the past decade, the foundation has distributed more than $1 million to numerous nonprofit organizations who speak directly into the heart of Brookshire Brothers and the company’s desire to support those in need.
The Lufkin ISD Education Foundation is one such recipient.
Each year, the Lufkin ISD Education Foundation receives grant requests from teachers throughout the district wanting to create unique educational experiences for their students.
“Each year our board members are blown away by the creative and out-of-the-box ideas submitted by LISD teachers. From STEM Labs to rock walls, green screens and escape rooms, our teachers are providing excellence in education, and the Foundation is proud to be a small part of that,” said Lufkin ISD Education Foundation Executive Director Morgan Watson. “With the help of the funds received from BBCF, we were able to award 27 grants totaling over $61,000. We are grateful for our partnership with BBCF. In the last 8 years, we have been able to impact thousands of students with the grants we’ve received from them (BBCF).”
The grant awarded by the BBCF in 2022 specifically gives students at Kurth Primary access to additional resources to learn science concepts and help increase their vocabulary and foundational skills in a practical way.
The grant titled “Hands-On Science for Diverse Learners” will purchase Foss science kits that include reusable, consumable and digital materials that can be used over a three-year span. These kits teach concepts related to weather and atmosphere, insects and plants, and motion and energy and will impact nearly 1,000 students.
“Brookshire Brothers believes in fostering strong agricultural-minded children. We know that programs such as the one at Kurth Primary inspire long-lasting impacts that could positively affect us all one day,” said Brookshire Brothers Public Relations & Corporate Responsibility Manager Melissa Crager. “We are honored to work with the Lufkin Education Foundation to provide hands-on, engaging learning opportunities in our community.”
The BBCF is primarily funded by two annual golf tournaments, which are supported by Brookshire Brothers’ vendor community. However, in 2022, the BBCF also plans to host its inaugural Trick or Trot 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, October 29 in downtown Lufkin. Vendor booths, food trucks, carnival games, pumpkin painting and more will line a portion of First Street from 9 a.m. to noon. Family friendly costumes are highly encouraged!
